Legal Aid Service of Broward County has an immediate opening for a Program Manager for its FFLA Pro Bono Project. The Program recruits private attorneys to provide pro bono legal services to those individuals who qualify for the services of Legal Aid and identifies and gathers the individuals in need of these services.
Illustrative Duties:
Continue to develop and implement a rollout plan within the community for Broward County residents to receive pro bono legal assistance;
Recruit pro bono attorneys to perform this work by contacting and establishing and maintaining relationships with local bar associations. laws offices, attorneys and corporate counsel;
Identify and gather clients in need of these services by coordinating with local resources, businesses, churches, and organizations who serve individuals in the community who would be most likely to be in need of the services;
Develop and distribute promotional materials, brochures, flyers, mailings, and maintenance of data;
Travel around Broward County to recruit attorneys and identify and gather individuals in need;
Assign cases to pro bono attorneys, gather and provide all necessary documentation for representation, and maintain contact with these attorneys to ensure that both attorneys and clients have a rewarding experience;
Assist with resource development throughout the year for program continuation and growth;
Input data and prepare reports for grants;
Work evening and weekend hours when necessary;
Perform any and all other duties that may, from time to time, be required by the supervisor or Executive Director.

LASBC seeks to hire an Immigration Staff Attorney in its Plantation office. Working as a part of an interdisciplinary team, the attorney will provide immigration legal services to survivors of crimes. The attorney will handle a variety of immigration cases, concentrating on humanitarian-based immigration benefits like VAWA, U Visa, and asylum. Legal Aid Service of Broward County’s Kinship Project has an opening for a full-time Guardianship/Estate Planning Attorney to provide direct legal representation to caregivers of minor children who are not under the care of their biological parents and are under the legal care of a kinship caregiver. The attorney will represent caregivers in Guardianship and Guardianship Advocacy cases, draft wills and other estate planning documents. Responsibilities include managing a full caseload, meeting with clients to determine appropriate legal advocacy, and participating in court hearings, mediations, negotiations, and staff meetings. The position also requires legal research and drafting of pleadings. Additionally, the attorney will conduct outreach to community organizations to promote the Kinship Project’s services.

The MISSION UNITED Veterans Pro Bono Project at Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Inc. has an opening for a full-time Legal assistant/Paralegal. The ideal candidate will have experience researching, drafting pleadings under attorney supervision, scheduling, and having familiarity in the areas of Housing/Landlord-tenant, Public Benefits, and Veteran Benefits. Experience with veterans’ issues is preferred, but not mandatory.
This position requires good oral and written advocacy skills and a willingness to be an advocate in for the indigent and veteran client population. Job duties include, but are not limited to, conducting legal assessments, performing intakes, and case management. Other job duties include conducting outreach and assisting on family law and veteran matters. This position also offers the opportunity to learn about both private and public entities on unique military/veteran issues and laws. Bilingual skills are a plus, but not required. Position Description
The Children’s Advocacy Program (CAP) of Legal Aid Service of Broward has openings for full time children’s attorneys to provide direct, independent legal representation of children and youth in the child welfare system. Attorneys will be responsible for carrying a full case load which includes meeting with and counseling child and youth clients to determine the course of legal advocacy; frequent court advocacy at all types of dependency proceedings from status hearings to motion hearings to trials; participating in mediations, negotiations, and treatment team staffings; and legal research and drafting of pleadings. Attorneys may also advocate for child victims of crime, including human trafficking, and engage in system advocacy to improve child welfare and the dependency system. Attorneys may also assist youth clients navigating the juvenile delinquency system.

Position Description
The LASBC HOMELESS LEGAL RIGHTS PROJECT advocates on behalf of individuals who are homeless. Currently, the unit has an opening for a full-time Staff Attorney. The Staff Attorney is responsible for providing high-quality legal services to the homeless. The position requires representation in many areas of law, including civil and administrative legal matters, such as immigration, family law, driver license reinstatement, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and other public benefit and civil matters. Knowledge of simple family law matters including simple divorce, child support modification, and name changes is highly recommended. Experience in handling I-90s, N-400s, I-30 with or without I-485s, I-821, and I-765, and FOIA requests is highly recommended. Knowledge of Social Security disability proceedings is highly recommended. Responsibilities include interviewing clients at various homeless shelters in Broward County, carrying a full case load, attending and participating in hearings, drafting pleadings, and conducting research and other duties as required. Position Description
The LASBC Homeless Prevention Program advocates on behalf of individuals who are at imminent risk of homelessness. The Staff Attorney participates in the intake of each family where all of the relevant information is gathered; forward if they are provided this one-time assistance; evaluates the situational cause of the first-time eviction reviews and evaluates the family finances to determine whether they can sustain their rental obligations going and works to ensure this is a one-time assistance; negotiates with the landlord and prepares formal settlement stipulations to be filed in court if necessary; and makes the ultimate recommendation for rental assistance. Currently, the unit has an opening for two full-time Staff Attorneys. The Staff Attorney is responsible for all tasks delineated above and any other tasks as assigned.

The starting salary for this exempt, full-time position is $71,500 and may be substantially higher depending on experience. Position Description
Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Inc. has an opening for a full-time Housing rights attorney who will be responsible to handle all manner of Landlord-Tenant matters for Broward County low-income residents.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Attorney will be responsible for all phases of case work, including attendance at court proceedings, interviewing clients and witnesses, discovery, investigations, negotiations, legal research and appeals.
Attorney will be expected to spot and address impact issues that affect various segments of the client community.
Attorney will be expected to comply with all program and unit forms and directives, complete case reports, funding reports and grant applications, train and supervise paralegals and legal interns, and other duties that may be assigned by their supervising attorney, Director of Advocacy, or Executive Director.

The MISSION UNITED Veterans Pro Bono Project at Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Inc. has an openingfor a full-time attorney available for applicants admittedto the Florida Bar. The ideal candidate will have experience researching, drafting pleadings, negotiating, and litigating in the areas of Housing/Landlord-tenant, Family Law, Public Benefits, and Veteran Benefits. Experience with veterans’ issues is preferred, but not mandatory.
This position requires good oral and written advocacy skills and a willingness to be an aggressive advocate in court for the indigent and veteran client population. Job duties include, but are not limited to, conducting legal assessments, performing intakes, representing clients, and case management. Other job duties include mentoring pro bono attorneys and providing advice and council on family law and veteran matters. This position also offers the opportunity to educate both private and public entities on unique military/veteran issues and laws. Bilingual skills are a plus, but not required.
